You post on Instagram, but your followers aren't growing and no enquiries come in? The reason is often not the content itself: only some of your followers see your posts, and new people don't see them at all. Ads fill that gap — and you don't need a big budget to start.
Is the "Boost post" button enough?
The "Boost" button in the Instagram app is the simplest route, but it's limited. For more control, use Meta Ads Manager: there you can choose the objective, audience, budget and placements precisely and track results in detail.
1. Choose the right objective
The ad system looks for people who match the objective you pick:
- Awareness — so as many people as possible see you (for a new brand);
- Traffic — so people go to your website or profile;
- Messages — so they write to you on Direct or WhatsApp (often the best value for service businesses);
- Leads / sales — so they fill in a form or buy.
Don't expect sales from a "get likes" objective: the system will bring you people who love liking things but aren't inclined to buy.
2. Narrow down the audience
- Location — only the cities or districts you serve;
- Age and gender — matching your real customers;
- Interests — don't go too narrow; at first, let the system learn on its own;
- Your own audience — website visitors and people who've engaged with your profile are your warmest audience.
3. Budget and duration
Start with a small daily budget and leave the ad unchanged for at least a week — the system "learns" in the first days and results are unstable. Changing settings every day resets the learning. After a week, gradually raise the budget for ads that work and stop the ones that don't.
4. The ad itself
- The first 2 seconds — people are scrolling; the start of the image or video must grab attention immediately;
- One message — one offer per ad: "Hosting from 15 AZN/month", "Free consultation";
- A clear call to action — "Message us", "Get a price", "Order now";
- Mobile format — vertical videos and images (Reels, Stories) take up more of the screen;
- Several variations — test 2–3 different images and texts and keep the best performer.
5. Measure the results
The key metric isn't likes or views, but what one enquiry or sale costs you. If the ad sends people to your website, the site needs the Meta Pixel installed — then you can see who came from the ad and got in touch, and show the ad to people similar to them.
The most common mistakes
- The objective is "likes", the expectation is "sales";
- Showing ads to all of Azerbaijan and every age group;
- Leaving messages from the ad unanswered for hours;
- No price, address or contact details on the profile;
- Running an ad for 2 days and deciding "Instagram doesn't work".
